  6. Overview -

  8.      Even if only one person uses a computer, files can grow "like Topsy."
  9.      With multiple users, it is even more difficult to keep track of all
  10.      the files that just show up on the system.  DiskTrack is a utility
  11.      that will help keep track of new files, delete unwanted files, and
  12.      find duplicate files on any disk drive.  (Actually, DiskTrack looks
  13.      for files with the same name.  They may or may not be duplicates.)

  15.      DiskTrack is menu driven at the top level and completely interactive at
  16.      lower levels.

  18.      Command line: DT<Enter>  You will be prompted for the drive letter.
  19.  
  20.      Command line: DT E<Enter>  You start out with E drive current.

  22. The Scheme -
  23.  
  24.      DiskTrack compares the files currently on the disk drive with those
  25.      recorded in a baseline file.
  26.  
  27.      It creates a list of files added since the baseline was created, and a
  28.      list of those deleted.

  30.      DiskTrack will delete all of the files in the list of added files, or
  31.      allow you to select individual files from this list to be deleted.

  33.      It will also create a list of files with duplicate names.

  38. Starting Out -
  39.  
  40.      The main function in the menu is "<A>nalyze the file changes."  It
  41.      creates the *.FLS files that are used by the other functions.  Other
  42.      functions on the current drive are meaningless until these files are
  43.      created.

  45.      Before you analyze for the first time, you should manicure your disk
  46.      drive by hand.  Eliminate all unwanted files.  When you analyze for
  47.      the first time, the baseline list and the current files list are
  48.      created equal.  Therefore, the lists of added files and deleted files
  49.      will be empty.

  51.      The only meaningful thing to do with the current drive at this point
  52.      (after the first drive analysis) is to "<R>eport duplicate file names."

  54. Later Runs -
  55.  
  56.      Some time after creating the baseline file list, you can analyze the
  57.      drive again.  This time a new current file list is created and compared
  58.      to the baseline list.

  60.      From this comparison, the lists of added and deleted files are created.

  62.      There is nothing you can do about the deleted files (unless you have
  63.      backups), but you can choose files from the added files list to delete.

  70. Deleting Files -

  72.      The simplest choice is to delete ALL files added since the baseline
  73.      list was created.  If you wish, though, you can go through the entire
  74.      list of added files and mark individual files for deletion.

  76.      Whether you choose to delete all or only selected files, you will be
  77.      given one last chance to verify your wishes.

  79.      Suppose you wish to delete only some of the added files and many of
  80.      these are in some directory.  It is simpler to exit DiskTrack, use
  81.      DOS to delete all these files, then analyze the drive again.

  86. The Main Files (ASCII) -

  88.      dCURLST.FLS  -  The list of files currently on the drive "d:".
  89.      dBASLST.FLS  -  The baseline list.
  90.      dADDLST.FLS  -  The list of current files not on baseline list.
  91.      dDELLST.FLS  -  The list of baseline files not on current list.
  92.      dDUPLST.FLS  -  The list of duplicate file names.
  93.      DT_READ.ME   -  This file.  Place in same directory as DT.EXE.

  95.      All files are created in the directory current at execution of
  96.      DiskTrack.

  98.      The temporary files created and deleted by DiskTrack are all named
  99.      0S_Tx.TMP, where x is a single character.  Any files you have with
  100.      the same name will be overwritten and deleted.

  102. Entering Choices -

  104.      As various options are presented, a default value will be shown.
  105.      Except for the main menu (default = ?), pressing <Enter> accepts the
  106.      default value.

  108.      If you press a key that does not correspond to one of the acceptable
  109.      choices, the computer will beep and nothing else will happen.

  111.      When you press a key corresponding to an acceptable choice, the action
  112.      will take place immediately.  You do not have to press <Enter>.

  114.      You may use either upper or lower case letters in your choices.

  118. A New Baseline List -

  120.      After analyzing a drive and after deleting files from the list of
  121.      added files, you will be given the opportunity to make the current
  122.      list of files the baseline list.  If you choose this option, the old
  123.      baseline list will be moved to dBASLST.BAK.

  137.      its author, Ed Connell.  However, this program is distributed as
  138.      shareware.  You have the right to examine this program for suitability
  139.      for your use.  If you decide that you wish to keep and use it, you are
  140.      obligated to send $12 in check or money order along with your name and
  141.      address to the Candy Cane Software, PO Box 245, Keene, TX 76059.  For
  142.      this consideration, you will be sent a copy of the next upgrade, when
  143.      it is completed, and notification of other products as they become
